How are words counted?
The text is trimmed and split on spaces, tabs and line breaks, so every block of non-space characters counts as one word — the same method word processors use.

How is reading time worked out?
Reading time assumes about 200 words per minute and speaking time about 130 words per minute — reliable averages for planning articles, speeches and videos.
